Holy Cross Lutheran in Mobile, AL
Welcome

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Holy Cross.  Our namesake, Holy Cross, came about after the conversion of Constantine the Great in a.d. 313 during which time the cross first came into use as an emblem of Christianity.  According to tradition, on the eve of a crucial battle, Constantine saw a flaming cross in the heavens bearing the inscription, "on hoc signo vinces," which translated means, "By His sign thou shalt conquer."  As Christians, we continue to "conquer" because of Jesus who suffered and died on the cross.

The purpose of this congregation can be summed up in our Mission Statement: "The Family of Jesus: Caring, Sharing, and Growing."  Our Order of Worship is essentially that of the Christian church immediately after its early days of persecution - when it was free to worship as it chose.  By the 16th Century, many idolatrous practices had crept into the church.  the Lutheran Reformers merely eliminated those practices, and the Lutheran Church continued to use the basic worship pattern of the ancient church.  Lutherans, however, have always believed that effective worship should be offered to the members of any given congregation.  Down through the centuries, the Lutheran Church has continued to be a church of Reformation; not one of revolution.

We invite you to actively participate in our programs here at Holy Cross.  Our programs are specifically designed to help you grow in your relationship with JESUS and with one another.

Welcome to the Family!
